Every year, 10.000 crazy Dutchies jump into the 7 degree water (44°F) of the North Sea to celebrate the new year! These photo were taken with my pro-underwater photo gear while wearing my drysuit. Took the plunge myself later that day just for the fun of it

Camera failure (error 99) after 5 photos sucks big time, especially at a big photoshoot like this! Three photos came out nice though, these are two of them.

The Unox New Years Dive saw 10.000+ people jumping into the icecold North Sea at Scheveningen Beach in The Netherlands. A great and fun event to photograph, especially if your equipment doesn’t fail on you.

Another year, another great party in the Swiss Alps. As usual, Laax was host to the Dutch Championships Snowboarding 2.0: Snowfest. A new name for the same good ol’ fun: boarding, parties, the occasional rail, contests and some more pratying to top things up.

Just had to upload these two quickly, taken from the infamous Unox Nieuwjaarsduik 2010 (click here for 2008 and 2009). This year turned out the best from the three tries I’ve done so far in making these images with my drysuit and underwater camera. More shots later today or enjoy me at work (20:21) in this item at the main RTL4 News for January 1st.

Seems that quite a few people like that Alwin de Quartel photo, it turned up in the Algemeen Dagblad Newspaper last week at an article on the Dutch Ski Champs. Came out as a very nice article and I was happy to see all these images used so nicely.

Yesterday’s half-pipe saw some amazing action but the light was horrible for photography. Still managed to pull a few nice shots, especially from the winner Ryoh Aono from Japan.

If yesterday was cold, today was Arctic. With heatpockets in both hands I managed to keep my fingers a bit above freezing temp but the conditions weren’t as nice as they were in the first few days. Guess we saw it all this week: full sun, biggest snowfall in 20 years and freezing windy icechills to end the week with.
Last contest was the Big Air which had horrible angles from all sides so no real great images here too. Perhaps tonight for the finals things will be nice with my slaves and all the lamps they’ve put up at the jump.
