This fellow was brilliant, he (or she) was so curious that I had to push him away twice because he was about to eat my whole camera. Might have cost me some scratches on my fisheye domeport but I got some amazing shots to take home (can’t post them yet though).

But as they have a strict policy of not showing ski-photos, which I love taking, I decided to upload the whole series of 44 images onto my own website too. The Berghuis sisters have become like sisters to me after all these years of shooting. But Britt somehow managed to avoid getting a decent powder photo taken. Then, suddenly, it all came together: a small stretch of fresh cold powder that needed to be shredded. After a small discussion we both ran to our positions and this was the result. Ten minutes later that whole stretch was completely done for by a zillion tourists. [Les 2 Alpes, France. 2007]

Yes, that time of the year again: 10.000 people taking a dip in the cold waters (8 degree) of the North Sea at the beach town of Scheveningen. A tradition that was sold out this year for the very first time. Only in Holland!

Photo is one of a series of 5 shots taken with my Canon 1DmkIII and my 70-200 f2.8. To counter the bright light in the back I had set the camera at 1 stop overexposure while keeping at an Av setting of f5.6. With an ISO of 400 this led to a shuttertime of 1/400. Converted to B&W in Photoshop with the black deepened a little bit with the levels tool.

I took this photo about a year ago while on a trip to Curacao (Dutch Caribbean). It’s a photo of my sister in law doing a refresher scuba course after not having dived for about ten years.
I really wanted to capture the “learning” atmosphere as well as the holiday setting with blue sky and something exotic. The swimming pool of our diving hotel (Habitat, I recommend it if you like to be in the nature part of the island) turned out to be perfect.
Took quite a few clicks to get a good half-shot with all elements in it. The parasol just gives it a nice touch.
Taken with my 5D and a 15mm fisheye, at f10 and 1/200 sec. There was more than enough light to work without flashes and set ISO at 100.

It’s…. the 11th of the 11th, time for Carnaval!

A three-day visit to an island which is ten hours by plane and a couple hours in jetlag. Crazy? Not really, considering I was there to photograph the famous Caribbean Carnaval on the tiny Dutch Antilles island of Aruba. It’s the second-largest carnaval celebration in the whole caribbean and famous for its laid-back atmosphere and accessibility.
And boy was it worth the trip! Two days of sunny and happy people parading the streets of both major towns on the island: the very easy-goinh parade on Saturday in San-Nicolas and the massive and crowded Sunday main event in Oranjestad. Hours and hours of incredibly colorful people and costumes. I don’t think I’ve seen so many feathers. I guess the images speak for themselves, please enjoy and make sure you’re in the neighborhood next year!

As a proud dad of a gloriously happy little girl I end up taking zillions and zillions of photo’s. Just recently the whole family moved over to Curaçao for a decent relaxation and a tiny bit of underwaterwork.
